Metalworker with model for the flame for the Statue of Liberty, 1985

Trained in the ancient art of repoussé in France, master metal worker Jean Wiart fabricated the torch of the Statue of Liberty in 1985. In this image, Wiart, founder of L-M-C Corporation, covers a plaster rendering of the flame of the torch with steel to create a mold. He will then hammer copper sheets over the steel to create the copper flame.
