Worker With Union Flag by Gunther Gerzso

Pencil on paper, 11 x 18 inches

The Mexican painter Gunther Gerzso (1915-2000) took up sketching and painting in the 1930s, first as a hobby and then designing sets for the theater. Gerzso moved from surrealism to abstraction. This painting may reflect both his set work, and his connection to the Mexican Revolution.

It is part of the Labor Arts exhibit Scenes of American Labor with art works that evokes the individual and physical experience of work. The entire series is housed at the Sullivan Goss Gallery in Santa Barbara, CA.
