In a Coal Mine Near Pottsville, PA, 1938.

Some of the finest photographers and most dramatic pictures to come out of the Great Depression were products of the photographers gathered by Roy Stryker in the New Deal-created Farm Security Administration. One of them – Jack Delano – came to the U. S. from Kiev, Russia in 1923. His photos shown here cover a variety of industries. This one is in a coal mine near Pottsville, Pennsylvania.
