Anonymous, “Waiting for Work” 

This photograph by a member of The Workplace Project on Long Island is included in Unseen America: Photos and Stories by Workers (Regan Books, 2006). “We have built so many houses and fixed so many streets throughout Long Island and throughout this country that we deserve to be treated as human beings,” the photographer wrote.  

The Workplace Project was founded in 1992 to address the maginalization of low and no-wage immigrant workers on Long Island.
