Aron Cruz, “Have Some.”

This beautifully lit image by Aaron Cruz is included in Unseen America: Photos and Stories by Workers (Regan Books, 2006). The project grew out of photography classes offered through Bread and Roses, a nonprofit cultural program of the labor union 1199. Workers were encouraged to photograph and share stories and images from the world around them. 

Mr. Cruz, a day laborer on Long Island, wrote: “Immigrants intend no harm. These pictures will help others understand us better.”
