Israel Perez, “The Barbeque” 

This photograph by Israel Perez, a day laborer on Long Island, NY, is included in Unseen America: Photos and Stories by Workers. The project grew out of photography classes offered through Bread and Roses, a nonprofit cultural program of the labor union 1199. Workers were encouraged to photograph and share stories and images from the world around them. 

Mr. Perez wrote: “We only want to be able to feed our families.”
