AFT Local 3882 president Trudy Rudnick being led away in handcuffs for using a bullhorn in direct defiance of police orders during a union demonstration in 1993.  Local 3882 of the American Federation of Teachers was chartered to represent the largely female workforce of clerical employees on private university campuses.  Contracts at Columbia, New York University, Yale and other private universities set the pace in imporving conditions, including parental leave, support for childcare, equal pay for work of comparable value and domestic partner benefits.
