The North Atlantic Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) was passed in 1993 against bitter opposition by organized labor which feared massive job losses. This photograph from UNITE shows children and workers protesting against fast track negotiating authority for NAFTA. The intensity of these 1997 demonstrations surprised Congress and as a result fast track was defeated.
