Workers pour concrete over reinforcing iron, 1914

Reinforcing iron rods called rebar are embedded in all structures made of poured concrete. Workers move across this job site in 1914 with wheelbarrows of concrete that will eventually cover the rebar on this rooftop.

From the exhibit Landscape of Lost Arts on the work of the union members and artisans who built our city’s landscape.
