Verna’s Story

From Washington DC to Red Hook, Brooklyn

Brooklyn artist Nina Talbot weaves elements of cultural heritage into her extraordinary portraits of immigrant shopkeepers and families in Brooklyn, with an eye for the visual elements of the setting that evoke the country of origin, and a keen interest in the ways their lives intersect with history.

Talbot’s depiction of artist Verna King includes scenes of family members and life in the projects of Red Hook, where King’s own artwork took center stage.
