From Islamabad, Pakistan to Midwood, Brooklyn
Brooklyn artist Nina Talbot weaves elements of cultural heritage into her extraordinary portraits of immigrant shopkeepers and families in Brooklyn, with an eye for the visual elements of the setting that evoke the country of origin, and a keen interest in the ways their lives intersect with history.
This painting depicts the Brooklyn world of Asma Talukder, a Pakistani Muslim woman who teaches the Koran while negotiating her way through life in New York City.
