Bricklayers History Mural

6′ x 23,’ acrylic on canvas

This mural by Kathleen Farrell is located in the headquarters of the International Brotherhood of Bricklayers and Allied Craft Workers Union in Washington DC. Farrell is an artist and muralist who collaborates with community and labor groups to create public art that tells the often forgotten stories of the lives of ordinary people, their history, struggles and hopes. She uses photographs to develop a composition of images that tell a story followed by an abstract underpainting that increases its power and clarity.
