Stevenson Street by John Davies
Oil on Masonite, 22 x 26 inches
The regionalist oil painting “Stevenson Street” by John Davies (1901-1965) depicts ex-urban, small-town life, with men returning home from work, heads bent. The painting is part of the Labor Arts exhibit Scenes of American Labor with thirty nine paintings that explore the physical elements of people at work, and the workplaces and neighborhoods where they spend their time. The entire series is housed at the Sullivan Goss Gallery in Santa Barbara, CA, and salutes the American worker from the late 1800’s to today.
