Garment Presser

A man pressing a man’s shirt, possibly in a garment factory. The fact that he is working in his undershirt reflects the incessant heat in the workplace. The photographer Sam Reiss worked regularly for the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America, and possibly took this photograph in a shop the union had successfully organized.

Image by labor photographer Sam Reiss from the Tamiment Library Collections, New York University.
