Unemployed Demonstration in Union Square, New York

Mass rallies supporting government help for unemployed workers were numerous during the depression, and many of them were organized by the Communist Party and other left labor organizations. The building in the background of this rally houses the Co-Operative Cafeteria; banners  above the cafeteria read, “Vote Communist,” and “Unemployed! Fight for The Workers’ Social Insurance Bill!”
