Planting pineapple in Hawaii, circa 1976, The ILWU Story: Six Decades of Militant Unionism, International Longshore and Warehouse Union, 1997.

The effort to win decent wages for workers in the pineapple and sugar industries has been extended in the past two decades to a new low wage industry–tourism. Hawaii ILWU Local 142 works to organize workers in all of these industries, and it provides job training for displaced workers to aid them in moving to hotel and other tourist jobs. Natural disasters and anti union employers make the ongoing fight for decent wages and conditions a difficult one.
