1936

The October 1936 miners’ election rally in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania was addressed by both President Franklin D. Roosevelt and United Mine Workers President John L. Lewis. This was during Roosevelt’s campaign for a second term. He had won the heartfelt support of mine workers and all sections of the labor movement by fostering the most far-reaching pieces of labor and social legislation in our nation’s history.
