The League of Women Shoppers joined locked-out employees on the picket line in front of Ohrbach’s department store, at 48 East Fourteenth Street early in 1935. Storeworkers at Ohrbach’s struck over issues including the store’s refusal to abide by the NRA federally mandated minimum wage of fourteen dollars a week, the store’s refusal to recognize their union, and the terror tactics it used to prevent unionization.
