The Paterson Silk Strike Pageant (1913) was conceived by the noted radical, John Reed, as a means of both raising funds for the strike and educating the New York public about the heroic struggle being carried on by the silk strikers in neighboring New Jersey.  With all the roles played by the strikers themselves, it drew a capacity crowd of 15,000 to New York’s Madison Square Garden.  The event, however, lost money, and the strike itself was ultimately unsuccessful.
