1936

Anti nazi program cover. Program cover for the World Olympic Labor Athletic Carnival, held in 1936 at New York City’s Randall’s Island Stadium.  The event was organized by the Jewish Labor Committee to counter the 1936 World Olympics being hosted by Nazi Germany in Berlin as a showcase of fascist strength.

As fascists seized power in Europe, New York City unionists mobilized against them on the home front.  The Jewish Labor Committee, founded in 1934 by the needle trades unions, the Arbeiter Ring (Workmen’s Circle) fraternal organization, and the Jewish Daily Forward, worked tirelessly to educate Americans about the dangers of Nazi power and to save the lives of its intended victims.
