Another example of the range of Delano's work, this one in a Connecticut plant that was the scene six years after this picture was taken of one of seven general strikes that took place in this country in 1946, which, probably more than anything else, prompted the passage of the Taft-Hartley "Slave Labor" Law. This piece of legislation, which is still on the nation's books, made it illegal for unions to support the strikes of other unions through what was called a "secondary boycott." The law also opened the door to so-called "right-to-work laws," which have made it illegal, in the states adopting such laws, for contracts to be signed with a union shop provision.
